正在熱播的古裝歷史劇《山河月明》，是在講述了朱元璋第四子朱棣的故事，這部戲讓廣大網友對朱棣相當感興趣！其實，朱元璋很早就發現朱棣雄才大略；據傳朱元璋很喜歡用對聯來考驗兒孫和部下的能力，如果答得好，就會受到朱元璋的賞識；但有一次朱元璋出了對聯讓兒孫們即興發揮，卻無意中發現，朱棣野心太大，恐危及皇孫日後的皇位。

在講對聯給朱元璋的啟發前，必先了解朱元璋在皇位繼承的想法；在明朝歷史上，朱元璋並沒有將皇帝傳給自己的兒子，而是直接傳給自己的孫子，這種跨越式傳位實屬罕見。在他心中太子朱標是最適合的人選，無奈兒子朱標英年早逝，於是他把對朱標的愛轉移到自己的孫子朱允炆身上，朱允炆後來即位，年號建文，即明惠帝；不過，這讓當時朱元璋的第四個兒子朱棣非常不滿，此時朱棣內心已埋下奪位的種子，既然父親不傳位給他，日後皇位他自己來取。

話說在太子朱標去世之後，有一次朱元璋帶著朱允炆和幾個兒子一起去打獵，結果在打獵期間吹了一陣狂風，並夾雜著一陣陣雨滴，將他們的坐騎的尾巴吹成了一條條直線。朱元璋看到這一幕之後，突然興致大發，於是便出了一個上聯：「風吹馬尾千條線」，讓兒孫們來對答。

未來將繼承皇位的皇太孫朱允炆，在聽到朱元璋的上聯之後，遲疑了一會答道：「雨打羊毛一片羶」，朱元璋在聽了朱允炆的答案之後，又讓四子燕王朱棣對答，結果燕王朱棣脫口而出，答曰：「日照龍鱗萬點金」。朱元璋一聽內心大驚，雖然朱棣的答案讓他非常滿意，但他內心非常清楚，這反應與能力，顯然比朱允炆要大器許多。

朱元璋開始不安，在他去世之前，想盡了一切辦法來鞏固孫子朱允炆的皇位，但仍沒能改變朱棣日後的奪位；朱棣於建文元年（1399年）起兵反抗，揮師南下，史稱「靖難之役」。建文四年（1402年），攻破南京，建文帝在宮城大火中下落不明，燕王朱棣即位，改年號永樂。
